1. Overview
BabelBridge ("we", "our", "the app") is a relationship communication tool that translates messages between partners using AI. We take your privacy seriously, especially given the sensitive nature of relationship communication.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and an encrypted password. We use Supabase Authentication, which handles credential storage securely.
Cognitive Profile
When you complete the assessment, we store your cognitive profile scores (communication style preferences across 10 dimensions). These scores are numerical values with no personally identifying information.
Translation Data
When you use the translation feature, we process your message through our AI service to generate a translated version. We store:
- The original and translated messages (linked to your account)
- The translation formula used
- Your optional rating of the translation quality
- Timestamps for journey stage tracking
Partner Linking
If you link with a partner via invite code, we store the connection between your accounts. Each partner can only see their own data and shared session history.
Usage Patterns
We track aggregated usage patterns (translation frequency, formula distribution, rating trends) to detect your relationship journey stage and adapt translations accordingly. This analysis is performed on metadata, not message content.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Translation: Your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for translation. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Quality improvement: Your translation ratings help personalize future translations through few-shot learning (showing the AI examples of translations you previously rated highly).
- Journey tracking: We analyze your usage patterns (not message content) to detect your relationship journey stage and adjust translation style accordingly.
- Safety detection: Messages are analyzed locally on your device for safety markers (contempt, stonewalling, flooding) before translation. This analysis happens client-side and is not sent to our servers separately.
4. Data Storage and Security
- All data is stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS in the US West region)
- Row Level Security (RLS) is enforced at the database level, ensuring users can only access their own data — even if a query is crafted to bypass application logic
- API keys are stored server-side only; your device never holds AI service credentials
- Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain with shared access groups for the iMessage extension
- All network communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Translation requests are authenticated via Supabase JWT tokens and rate-limited to prevent abuse
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Message content is sent for translation processing via their API. Anthropic's API terms explicitly prohibit using this data for model training.
- Supabase: Infrastructure provider for authentication and data storage.
- Apple: Standard App Store analytics if you opt in on your device. We use Sentry for crash reporting, which collects device information but not message content.
6. Your Rights
- Access: View all your data within the app (History screen)
- Delete: Request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting support@babelbridge.net
- Export: Export your translation history (Premium feature)
- Disconnect: Remove partner linking at any time from the app
- Opt out: You can use the app without linking a partner or participating in live sessions
7. Data Retention
- Free tier: Translation history is retained for 30 days
- Premium: Translation history is retained indefinitely
- Account deletion: All data is permanently deleted within 30 days of request
- Invite codes: Expire after 24 hours and are then deleted
- Live sessions: Session data expires after 1 hour
8. Children's Privacy
BabelBridge is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@babelbridge.net.
9. International Users
BabelBridge is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. By using the app, you consent to this transfer.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through the app and by updating the "last updated" date above.
